General Trip Organization
The Troop will make an effort to have an outdoor experience every month.
Each Scout activity will be supervised by two registered
adult leaders, or by one adult leader and a parent of a participating scout. One
of these must be 21 years old or older. Trip planning should begin 6 months prior to a weekend trip, and 12-18 months prior
to a high adventure trip. Involvement of other adult leaders and boy leaders should begin 6-8 weeks prior to the activity. Final preparation for that trip or activity will be completed during the Scout meeting(s)
preceding the activity. This includes any special training necessary for the activity (canoeing skills, etc.). It is mandatory
that scouts participating in an outdoor trip attend the Scout meeting immediately prior to the trip.
Scouts, adult leaders and parents will
be informed about each trip in advance as to time of departure and return, cost, where the Troop will be, and activities of
the trip. Trip plans and contact information will be written and given to adult leaders remaining in town and to the spouses
of the adult trip leaders.
A Local Tour Permit must be filed with
the Old North State Council service center 2 weeks in advance of a scheduled trip of less than 500 miles. Local Tour Permits are not required if the trip is entirely within The Old North State Council geographic
area. A National Tour Permit application must be submitted to the Old North State Council service center for approval at least
1 month before the departure on a trip of 500 miles or greater. The Council office forwards it to the regional office for
its approval.
,
Each scout is responsible for his portion of the food cost
for the trip and is responsible for any related fees for the trip (ski rental, camping fees, etc.). Any Scout canceling an
activity after the Tuesday meeting before the activity may be required to forfeit his portion of the food cost and unrecoverable
expenses.
Patrol camping equipment, including tents,
is furnished by the Troop. This equipment is purchased through money raised from the annual fundraiser. If the equipment is
misused or lost, it is the Patrol or Scout's responsibility to replace or repair the, lost or damaged equipment.
